Fence Installation in Ballantyne

Fence installation in Ballantyne starts with a document, not a tape measure. Almost every home in this part of south Charlotte belongs to an association, and some belong to two: a master association and a neighborhood one. Their guidelines say what a fence may be made of, how tall it may be, what color, and how far back from the front of the house it has to start.

QC Fence Contractors installs and replaces fences for Ballantyne homeowners and for the offices, shops and communities around them. Black aluminum is the usual request here, because it is what the guidelines tend to favor and because so many yards have pools. Vinyl and wood privacy fences go in where an association allows them, usually along a rear line.

Ballantyne is a neighborhood of the City of Charlotte in Mecklenburg County, a few minutes from the South Carolina line. City and county rules apply on top of the HOA's, and the sections below explain how the three fit together.

What Shapes a Fence in Ballantyne

Uniformity is the point of the guidelines. In a golf community such as Ballantyne Country Club or Piper Glen, lots that border the course are usually limited to an open fence so the view across the fairway stays clear, and a solid privacy fence on that line will be refused. Interior lots get more latitude. Before picking a style, find out which kind of lot the association considers yours.

Pools are common, and they change the specification. A pool barrier has to meet the state code, which governs height, the size of openings and how the gates close and latch. An aluminum fence that satisfies the HOA is not automatically a pool-code fence; the panel style and the gate hardware have to be chosen for it. We quote the two requirements together so one fence does both jobs.

The terrain here is rolling, and many yards end at a retaining wall, a wooded buffer or a pond. Fences on or above a wall need attention to how the posts are mounted. Along common-area buffers and ponds the lot line is often short of where owners assume it is, so the survey gets checked before the line is drawn.

The commercial side of Ballantyne, around Ballantyne Corporate Park and the shopping centers on Johnston Road and Rea Road, uses ornamental metal fence, screened service areas and dumpster enclosures finished to match the buildings.

HOA, City of Charlotte and Pool Code Requirements in Ballantyne

The HOA comes first because it is the strictest and the slowest. Submit the association's application with a copy of your survey showing the fence line, the style, the height and the color. Approval is in writing. We prepare the drawing and product details and do not schedule the build until you have the letter.

Because Ballantyne is inside Charlotte, the city's Unified Development Ordinance sets the zoning limits on fence height and placement, and Mecklenburg County Code Enforcement issues building permits. The City of Charlotte also says a fence or wall built along a city street needs a no-cost fence and wall certificate from the Charlotte Department of Transportation and has to stay out of intersection sight triangles. That matters mostly on corner lots.

Pool barriers are inspected under the North Carolina residential code. North Carolina also requires at least three full working days of notice to NC811 before digging. In Ballantyne the buried lines to watch are private: irrigation and landscape lighting run along nearly every fence line.

Rules change, and this page is not legal advice. Confirm the requirements for your address with the local office before building.

Will Your Ballantyne HOA Approve the Fence You Want?

It will if the fence is on the approved list and the application is complete. Most refusals we see come from three things: a solid fence proposed on a lot line where only open fence is allowed, a height above the limit, or a fence that starts forward of the rear corners of the house.

If privacy is what you are after and the guidelines only allow open aluminum on your line, the workable answer is usually planting inside the fence, or a short run of privacy screen near the patio where the guidelines permit one. Ask before assuming. A committee will often approve a specific, drawn request that it would refuse as a general idea.

Ballantyne Fence Questions

Do you install fences in Ballantyne?

QC Fence Contractors installs and replaces fences throughout Ballantyne and south Charlotte, including Piper Glen, Blakeney and the Ardrey Kell area. Estimates are free and done on site. Call (803) 902-4582 or send the form on this page to schedule.

What fences do Ballantyne HOAs approve?

Black aluminum is the fence Ballantyne associations approve most widely. Wood and vinyl privacy fences are allowed in some neighborhoods and on some lot lines and prohibited on others, especially golf course and pond lots. Every association publishes its own guidelines, so the written document for your neighborhood is the authority.

How long does HOA approval take in Ballantyne?

HOA review in Ballantyne commonly takes a few weeks, depending on when the committee meets. A complete application moves faster: survey with the fence drawn on it, style, height, color and product information. We provide those pieces. Apply well before the date you want the fence finished.

Is Ballantyne covered by City of Charlotte fence rules?

Ballantyne is inside the City of Charlotte, so the city's Unified Development Ordinance governs fence height and placement there. Building permits come from Mecklenburg County Code Enforcement. A fence along a city street also needs a no-cost fence and wall certificate from the Charlotte Department of Transportation.

Does a standard aluminum fence meet pool code?

A standard aluminum fence does not automatically meet pool code. The North Carolina residential code sets a minimum height, limits the size of openings and requires gates that close and latch by themselves. Pool-rated panels and hardware are made for this. We quote them when you tell us there is a pool.

Can I put a privacy fence on a golf course lot?

Golf course lots in Ballantyne area communities are usually limited to open fencing so views across the course are kept. A solid privacy fence on the course side is typically not approved. Read the guidelines for your section, and ask the committee whether screening near a patio is allowed.

How long does the installation itself take?

The on-site build for a Ballantyne back yard is usually one to three days. Aluminum goes up quickly once posts are set. Yards with retaining walls, steep grade or limited access between houses take longer. The NC811 locate, which needs three full working days, happens before the crew arrives.

What drives fence cost in Ballantyne?

Material, footage and gates drive most of a Ballantyne fence quote. Pool-code hardware, mounting on or near retaining walls, grade changes and matching a required style add to it. Large lots mean more footage. The estimate is free, measured on site and written.

Can a fence be installed on top of a retaining wall?

A fence on a retaining wall depends on how the wall was built. Some walls accept core-drilled or surface-mounted posts, and others should not carry a fence at all. The usual alternative is setting the fence just behind the wall in the ground. We look at the wall before recommending either.

Do you install driveway gates in Ballantyne?

Driveway gates are installed for Ballantyne homes with the lot width and association approval for one. Swing and sliding designs in aluminum or steel are common, with an operator and keypad or remote. Automated gates are built to the industry safety standards for gate operators, which affect the design.

Do you work on commercial properties around Ballantyne Corporate Park?

Commercial fencing around Ballantyne includes ornamental metal fence, screening for service areas, dumpster enclosures and gates for offices, retail centers and residential communities. Finishes are chosen to match the property. Send a site plan or arrange a walk-through for a measured quote.
