Chain Link Fencing: Galvanized and Black Coated for Yards and Sites
Chain link fences more ground for less money than anything else, and it lasts. We install it for backyards, businesses, ball fields and industrial yards.
Chain Link Fence Installation and Replacement
A chain link fence is woven steel mesh stretched tight between terminal posts and tied to line posts and a top rail. It keeps dogs in and people out, it does not block light or air, and it stands up to weather with almost no attention.
QC Fence Contractors installs chain link across the Charlotte metro, from a four foot backyard fence to tall security fence around a plant. The job photos on this page include backyard fence, gates and chain link partitions inside warehouses.
Finishes and Options
- Galvanized: the familiar silver finish, and the workhorse for commercial and industrial sites.
- Black vinyl coated: coated mesh on black framework. It recedes against trees and shrubs and is the usual choice for homes and parks.
- Privacy slats: strips woven through the mesh to screen a yard or enclosure.
- Top rail or tension wire, and bottom tension wire or rail where the fabric must not lift.
- Barbed wire or razor wire on commercial and industrial fence, where zoning allows.
- Walk gates, double drive gates and cantilever sliding gates.
Where Chain Link Is the Right Answer
At a home it suits dog fences, kennels and runs, and long back property lines where privacy is not the goal. For businesses it covers parking lots, storage yards and dumpster enclosures. For recreation it is the standard for tennis courts and ball fields.
What separates a good chain link fence from a poor one is the framework: post diameter and wall thickness, how the corners are braced, and how tightly the fabric is stretched. Light framework is where low bids save their money, and it shows within a few years as leaning corners and slack mesh.

Chain Link Fencing Questions
Is black chain link worth it over galvanized?
For a yard, usually. Black coated mesh on black framework is far less noticeable and the coating adds a layer of protection over the galvanizing. Galvanized is the practical choice where appearance matters less. See black chain link fences.
Can a chain link fence give privacy?
Partly. Privacy slats block most of the view. They also add wind load, so the posts have to be sized for them.
Will chain link keep my dog in?
For most dogs, yes. Height handles jumpers and a bottom tension wire or rail stops a dog from pushing under. Diggers may need the fabric buried or a dig guard along the bottom.
How tall can chain link fence be?
It is made in heights from low yard fence up to tall security and sports fence. What you may build is set by local zoning and any HOA rules, which differ from place to place.
