Industrial Fence Repair: Breaches and Strikes on a Sound Perimeter

When a truck takes out a corner or someone cuts through the mesh, we close the perimeter and check what else is close to failing.

Repairing Security Fence at Industrial Sites

A breach in an industrial perimeter is a hole in the site security until it is closed. Most of the damage we are called to has an obvious cause: a trailer swung wide, a forklift backed into the line, a tree came down in a storm, or someone cut their way in.

Our focus is installing and replacing fence. We repair industrial fence across the Charlotte metro when the damage is confined and the rest of the perimeter is in working order.

Typical Industrial Repairs

  • Replacing posts bent or sheared by vehicles, including corner and gate posts with their bracing.
  • Cutting out and replacing damaged chain link fabric and re-stretching it between terminals.
  • Replacing crushed top rail and broken barbed wire arms, and re-stringing barbed wire.
  • Re-securing bottom tension wire where fabric has been lifted or dug under.
  • Straightening or rebuilding gate frames and replacing rollers, hinges, latches and stops.
  • Repairing interior chain link partitions and cages hit by forklifts.

Knowing When to Stop Repairing

A repair restores one piece of the fence to the condition of the rest. That is worth doing when the rest is good. It is not worth doing when the posts on either side of the break are rusted at the ground, when the fabric has been patched so often that it will not hold tension, or when the gate that keeps failing was never heavy enough for the traffic it sees.

When we find that, we say so. The estimate will cover the repair needed to close the perimeter now, and we will tell you what replacing the affected run would take. On an aging perimeter, replacing the worst stretch is usually cheaper over a few years than paying for a string of separate repairs, and it gives back the security the patched section no longer provides.

What to Do Right After the Damage

Photograph the damage and note the time, the vehicle or carrier involved if there was one, and any report number. Those records support a claim against the responsible party or your own insurer, and our written estimate can go with it. Then call us and tell us the perimeter is open. If parts have to be ordered, such as a gate frame or a length of coated fabric, the opening can be closed temporarily first and the permanent repair made when the material arrives.

If the damage was a cut-through, look at why that spot was chosen. A dark corner, a section hidden by a building, or fabric that can be lifted at the bottom will be tried again. Bottom rail, a tighter gap to grade or a topping may be worth adding during the repair.

Industrial Fence Repair Questions

Can you match heavy-gauge industrial chain link?

In most cases, yes. We match wire gauge, mesh size, coating and framework diameter to what is on the fence. New galvanized fabric will look brighter than old fabric until it weathers.

Do you repair cantilever and sliding gates?

Yes. We repair and replace gate frames, rollers, guides, latches and stops. If the gate was hit hard enough to twist the frame, replacing the gate is often the sounder fix. See gate repair.

Can you repair damaged barbed wire or razor wire?

Yes. We replace bent extension arms, re-string and tension barbed wire, and replace damaged coil. If the topping is being changed instead of restored, confirm that the zoning district allows it.

Will you provide an estimate for a claim against a trucking company?

Yes. Estimates are written and describe the damage and the work needed. Send photos and the incident details, and we will prepare an estimate you can forward to the carrier or the insurer.

How do we decide between repairing and replacing the perimeter?

Look at the fence on either side of the damage. Solid posts and tight fabric mean a repair will hold. Rust at the ground line, slack fabric and repeated patches mean the fence is at the end of its life and replacement should be priced.
