Fence Installation in Harrisburg

Fence installation in Harrisburg is very often a first fence. The town has grown quickly along NC 49 and Rocky River Road, and many of the calls we get are from owners a year or two into a new house who want the yard enclosed for a dog, a toddler or a pool. There is no old fence to copy, so the height, the style and the gate locations are all open questions.

The QC Fence Contractors office that serves Harrisburg, northeast Mecklenburg County and Cabarrus County is at 13534 Plaza Rd Extension Ste 5028, Charlotte, NC 28215. Its street address is in Charlotte, on Plaza Road Extension, and Harrisburg is the town it is set up to serve. From there we install fences for Harrisburg homes and businesses and replace the older ones in the established parts of town. Vinyl privacy, black aluminum and wood shadowbox are the styles associations here approve most. On the edges of town, where subdivisions give way to pasture, we build rail and wire fence.

Harrisburg sits in Cabarrus County right on the Mecklenburg line, a few minutes from University City and Charlotte Motor Speedway. That location affects who regulates a fence, which is covered below with the practical points about building on new construction lots.

Building a Fence on a New Harrisburg Lot

New lots have new problems. The yard was graded months ago, the soil near the foundation and along utility trenches is backfill that has not finished settling, and sod was laid over whatever was left. Posts set in loose fill will move, so holes go down to firm ground even when that means digging deeper than usual.

Builders shape each lot to push water to a swale along the side or rear line, and the plat usually records a drainage and utility easement there. That strip is exactly where most owners want the fence. Whether a fence may cross it is decided by the HOA and the town, and when it is allowed the bottom of the fence has to stay clear so water still moves.

Corner lots and lots that back up to a main road, such as Rocky River Road or Stallings Road, get special treatment in most Harrisburg covenants. Associations often require a specific fence along the road side so the neighborhood looks uniform from outside.

The older part of Harrisburg, near the original town center and along Morehead Road, has larger lots, mature trees and wood or chain link fences due for replacement. Farther out toward the Rocky River, properties run to several acres and call for board fence or woven wire.

I was contacted the same day after asking for a quote & Chase was able to come the same week to mark the layout/ give price estimate. Chase was very patient & helped me narrow down a fence design. He also helped with everything I needed for my HOA approval.

Who Approves a Fence in Harrisburg

Inside the town limits, zoning rules for fences come from the Town of Harrisburg's development ordinance, and the town planning office answers questions about height and placement. Building permits in Cabarrus County are handled at the county level. Addresses just outside the limits may fall under Cabarrus County, the City of Concord or, across the line, the City of Charlotte. Start by confirming which jurisdiction your address is in.

We could not find an official Harrisburg page that lists fence heights, so none are quoted here. Front yards, corner lots and sight lines at driveways are the usual restricted areas in North Carolina towns, and it is reasonable to expect the same here.

In practice the HOA decides most of what a Harrisburg fence looks like. Apply in writing with a marked-up plot plan before anything is ordered. North Carolina requires three full working days of notice to NC811 before digging, and new neighborhoods have a lot buried along the lot lines, so the locate matters.

Rules change, and this page is not legal advice. Confirm the requirements for your address with the local office before building.

Is Your New Harrisburg Yard Ready for a Fence Yet?

A new lot is ready when four things are true: you have the final survey, the HOA has approved the fence in writing, the final grade and sod are in, and any pool or patio work that needs equipment access is finished. Fencing before the pool contractor arrives means taking a section back down.

If you are still waiting on one of those, get the estimate anyway. The measurements and the quote can be done ahead of time, the HOA application can go in with our drawing, and the build date is set for when the yard is ready.

Harrisburg Fence Questions

Do you build fences in Harrisburg, NC?

QC Fence Contractors installs and replaces fences across Harrisburg and the surrounding part of Cabarrus County. The office that serves Harrisburg is at 13534 Plaza Rd Extension Ste 5028, Charlotte, NC 28215, and its street address is in Charlotte. Estimates are free and done at your property. Call (704) 486-2731 or use the estimate form below to set up a visit.

When should I fence a newly built home in Harrisburg?

The right time to fence a new Harrisburg home is after closing, once you have the final survey and written HOA approval. Final grading and sod should be finished, and any pool or hardscape work that needs machine access should be done first. The estimate can happen earlier so the paperwork is ready.

Does Harrisburg require a permit for a fence?

Fence rules inside Harrisburg come from the town's development ordinance, and building permits in Cabarrus County are issued at the county level. Whether your fence needs a permit depends on height, location and use. Confirm your jurisdiction first, since some Harrisburg mailing addresses are actually in Concord or Charlotte.

Can my fence go in the drainage easement at the back of my lot?

A drainage easement on a Harrisburg lot restricts what goes in it. Some associations allow an open fence across it with a gap at the bottom, and some allow nothing. The recorded plat shows the easement. We check it with you at the estimate and draw the line to suit the answer.

How long does it take to install a fence on a Harrisburg lot?

A typical Harrisburg subdivision fence is built in one to two days. Add the time before the crew arrives: HOA review, the NC811 locate with its three full working days, and delivery of vinyl or aluminum.

What makes one Harrisburg fence cost more than another?

Material and footage explain most of the difference between two Harrisburg quotes. Vinyl and aluminum cost more per foot than pressure-treated wood. Height, the number of gates, slope along a rear swale and deep holes through fill dirt add to it. We measure and give a free written price.

What fence styles do Harrisburg HOAs usually allow?

Harrisburg associations most often approve vinyl privacy in white or tan, black aluminum and wood shadowbox or dog-ear at a set height. Many require a particular fence on lots that face a main road. The guidelines are specific to each neighborhood, so read yours before you fall for a style.

What fence is best for a dog in a new subdivision?

A dog fence in a Harrisburg subdivision is chosen by the dog as much as the HOA. Small dogs get through standard aluminum picket spacing, so a puppy panel or closer spacing is needed. Jumpers need height, and diggers need the fence tight to the ground. Tell us about the dog at the estimate.

Do you install pool fences for new pools in Harrisburg?

Pool barrier installation in Harrisburg is scheduled around the pool build. The barrier has to meet the state residential code for height, openings and gate latches, and the pool does not pass final inspection without it. Aluminum is the usual material. Give us the pool contractor's timeline when you call.

Do you replace older fences near the original town center?

Fence replacement in the older parts of Harrisburg is regular work for us. The existing wood or chain link fence is taken out with its footings and hauled away, and the new fence is built on a line checked against the survey. Larger, tree-covered lots take some extra layout time.

Do you build fences for Harrisburg businesses along NC 49?

Commercial fencing in Harrisburg covers chain link, ornamental fence, dumpster enclosures and gates for retail, offices, churches and storage sites along NC 49 and near Town Center. Send a site plan or ask for a walk-through, and the quote is based on measured footage.
